Los Angeles: a city developed in a desert that's on fire. Recorded live in his exhibition ‘Haunted by the Desert’ in Large Glass Gallery, which is open in North London until the 9 July 2022, Prix Pictet Fire shortlister Mark Ruwedel tells us about four decades spent photographing LA and its surrounding ecology. Mark describes how although fire is an integral part of Southern California, over the past years climate change has made these wildfires more and more frequent and unpredictable, raising their number to over 8,000 alone last year.
