Prix Pictet publishes new book Human.kind. with Red Cross Museum
This landmark cultural project showcases the work of thirty of over 3,000 photographers from around the world who have been nominated for the Prix Pictet.
Human.Kind. brings together almost 300 images by thirty photographers from twenty-four countries, all of whom have been nominated for one of the ten cycles of the Prix Pictet, since it was first awarded in 2008.
Documentary photographs, portraits and photo montages address the major issues of humanitarian action, from conflict and climate change to psychological support and respect for human dignity.
These works, selected and co-curated by William A. Ewing and Elisa Rusca, form the book and corresponding exhibition, which is on show at the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum in Geneva, Switzerland through to 25 August 2024.
From a deep dive into the Prix Pictet archives, Ewing and Rusca have made a diverse, thought-provoking selection of work by the thirty photographers, all leading contemporary practitioners, each of whom have created work that responds to the challenge of the need for humanity and compassion in photography.
With essays by Ewing and Rusca, commentaries by the photographers and texts by Marie- Laure Salles, Pascal Hufschmid (Director of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum), Isabelle von Ribbentrop (Executive Director of the Prix Pictet), Michael Benson (Director of the Prix Pictet) and Renaud de Planta (Senior Partner at Pictet Group), this is a compelling survey of contemporary photography that underlines the power the medium has to move us and to effect positive change in the world.
