Jeff Rosenheim

Jeff Rosenheim is the Joyce Frank Menschel Curator in Charge of Metropolitan Museum’s Department of Photographs. Rosenheim joined the Metropolitan Museum in 1988. The author of ten books on Walker Evans, Jeff is also the steward of three artists' archives: Walker Evans, Diane Arbus, and James Van Der Zee.

Rosenheim has a BA in American studies from Yale University, and an MFA in photography from Tulane University. He has lectured extensively and curated numerous thematic exhibitions, such as Along the Nile: Early Photographs of Egypt (2001), Photography and the American Civil War (2013) and The New Art: American Photography, 1839-1910 (2025). Rosenheim has organized many monographic exhibitions and published essays on a wide range of artists including Carleton Watkins, Thomas Eakins, James Van Der Zee, Walker Evans, Helen Levitt, Irving Penn, Richard Avedon, Robert Frank, Diane Arbus, Lee Friedlander, Bernd & Hilla Becher, William Eggleston, and Stephen Shore.
